But if and when you do, no doubt you will savor all the moments. The McRib and the Big Mac are some of the highest selling fast foods in the US and in case you haven’t sunk your teeth on a McPizza, you were either born after the 90s or you don’t know what you have been missing.
But wait, does McDonald really sell Pizza? It did in the 90s! For some of us who grew up in the good old days, the McPizza was a popular catch but what’s really amazing is the fact that even after all those years, the McPizza is still alive and well. According to Canada.com, the pizza is available at two locations only. The McPizza has been quite elusive for the best part of a decade. The pizza first launched in Canada in the 80s, and soon after, it spread its wings into the US.
However, even as the McPizza became a great treat in the US, in the late 90s it was discounted due to long waiting times and the relatively higher price point. But if you still look back to the McPizza with nostalgia, you can enjoy it again. The McPizza has been kept alive by one McDonalds franchise owner, Greg Mills. Even though this pizza is reported not to be of the same exact recipe as the one from the 90s, it is still worth the drive to Pomeroy, OH, and Spencer, West Virginia. Three friends from Canada are the latest foodies who have taken this road adventure to find the McPizza. For them, it was a journey of 1000 miles.
Nathan Dallaire, Mitchell Boughner, and Dan Sutherland took the trip down and the video they filmed on route to the pizza has gone viral. Dallaire was quoted saying that the 1,000 miles were absolutely worth it. He said that the road trip was more of a friends bonding thing but the pizza just capped it all in fine fashion. Dallaire also went ahead to note that the McPizza was a big part of their lives growing up in the 90s and they simply wanted to taste it again.
Despite reports that the recipe has changed since, Dallaire said that the Pizza tasted the same as the old one. The viral video has gotten a lot of attention and it’s not really surprising. Anyone who grew up with the McPizza wouldn’t mind a long distance of driving just to taste it again. It is clear that more will follow towards Spencer and Pomeroy to see whether this McPizza is the one they remember from back in the day. All in all, it’s definitely a big surprise that the McPizza is still available, especially when you consider it’s been over a decade since it was discontinued. Truly, an epic journey of self discovery.
